Why Weston Works So Well for an Active Lifestyle

by Maria Isabel Guevara

One of the things I appreciate most about living in Weston is how easy it is to make an active lifestyle part of your everyday routine.

After living here for many years, I have seen how much sports and outdoor activities are part of life in the community. You see it early in the morning with people walking, running and cycling, after school when the fields fill with kids practicing, and throughout the weekend with games, tournaments and families moving from one activity to the next.

For families considering a move to Weston, this is something worth knowing because it becomes part of your daily life very quickly.

Sports Are a Big Part of Growing Up in Weston

If you have children who love sports, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved from an early age.

Soccer is especially popular, with recreational and competitive programs, but it is only one of many options. Kids can participate in baseball, softball, basketball, football, cheerleading, swimming, tennis, volleyball, gymnastics, martial arts and other disciplines.

Some children simply want to have fun and play with friends. Others eventually move into travel teams and more competitive programs. Having so many choices nearby gives them the opportunity to try different sports and discover what they really enjoy.

Weston Regional Park, Tequesta Trace Park, Vista Park and Emerald Estates Park are some of the places that become very familiar when you are raising active kids in Weston. Afternoons and weekends can get busy with practices and games, and you quickly realize how convenient it is to have so many facilities close to home.

Sports also become a social connection. Kids make friends through their teams and parents inevitably get to know one another while sitting on the sidelines week after week.

Plenty of Options for Adults Too

Adults have just as many ways to stay active, and I particularly like the variety.

Midtown Athletic Club is one of the most complete options in the area. It offers much more than a traditional gym, with tennis, pickleball, swimming, group fitness and training facilities all in one place.

The YMCA is another important part of the community, offering fitness, swimming and programs for different ages. Bonaventure Town Center Club has also been part of Weston for many years, with fitness, tennis and recreational facilities.

Then there are all the specialized studios.

If you prefer boutique fitness, you can find everything from yoga and hot yoga at Yoga Joint, to functional and high intensity workouts at F45, and Pilates inspired strength and conditioning at FS8.

There are also Pilates studios, personal trainers, martial arts and many other specialized fitness concepts around Weston. You don't have to commit to one style of training because there is always something different to try.

Sometimes Your Gym Is Just Outside Your Front Door

One of the advantages I enjoy most is being able to exercise without necessarily having to go to a gym.

Walking, running and cycling are very much part of life in Weston. The sidewalks and paths throughout the city connect neighborhoods, parks and lakes, and you will see people outside early in the morning and again in the late afternoon.

Living in Weston Hills, this is something I particularly appreciate. Going for a walk or getting outside for some exercise doesn't require much planning. You can simply leave the house and go.

And because Florida allows us to be outdoors most of the year, these spaces actually get used.

Living in Weston Hills Gives Me a Different Perspective

Weston Hills has been my home for many years, so when I talk about the area with a client, I am not looking at it only from a real estate perspective.

I know what everyday life here looks like.

That becomes especially useful when I am helping someone relocate to Weston. Buyers naturally start with the house itself. They look at the number of bedrooms, square footage, renovations, pool, lot size and price.

But once we start talking about their lifestyle, the conversation usually changes.

Where will the kids practice soccer? Do they play competitive tennis? Does someone in the family swim? Where do you like to work out? Would you rather belong to a full service athletic club or train at a smaller studio? Do you like to walk or run outside? How much driving are you comfortable doing every afternoon?

Those questions may seem secondary when you first start looking for a house, but they can make a significant difference in choosing the right neighborhood.

There Is More to Choosing a Home Than the House

This is one of the reasons I enjoy showing Weston to people who are new to the area.

Of course I can show you the properties, explain the different neighborhoods and discuss the real estate market. But I can also tell you what living here is actually like because this is where I live too.

The parks are busy. The sports fields are used. Kids grow up playing on local teams. Adults have everything from tennis and pickleball to yoga, Pilates and functional training within a short drive. And on days when you don't feel like going anywhere, you can simply walk, run or bike through your neighborhood.

When someone is thinking about moving to Weston, I think those everyday details matter.

You can find bedrooms, square footage and property photos online.

But choosing where to live is also about understanding what your life will look like once you get there.

And when it comes to Weston, that is something I know from experience.
